About Us

Our Story

Phillips Youth Athletic Association (PYAA) aims to offer a competitive basketball outlet for the youths in Georgia. The company will be based in Douglas County, GA, which is located outside the Atlanta, GA city limits. The county’s school district is the 16th largest school district in the state of Georgia. For the 2010-2011 school year, there were approximately 24,000 children enrolled in the Douglas county school system between the ages of 5 and 18. The county and surrounding area is home to a lot of youth who deserve the opportunity to compete on a level with other cities in the state and around the country. PYAA plans to offer youths that opportunity.

It is noticeable that the area needs more organized, professional environments outside of school activities for youths to grow and develop basketball skills. Sports in general give youths the opportunity for physical activity, quality coaching, being part of a team, learning skills, and substantial time away from "negative recreation" (drugs, violence or sexual activities).

Clinical studies also show that sports and recreation programs can help youths establish lifelong, healthy, physical activity patterns. There are also studies that show kids involved in some type of positive activities will more than likely avoid gangs and other negative activities. PYAA plans to offer an environment where youths will feel safe and welcomed. We will offer opportunities to be successful in sports regardless of age, race, gender, family composition, income or community.

WHY WE DO THIS

Coach Phillips started this organization to offer parents different options. "When I started looking for an AAU team in the area for my son to play basketball, I found it was difficult to find a quality organization to join. I also realized that most of the organizations only offer the kids a day or two of practice and then games in tournaments. I did not notice any quality training being offered. Basketball is built on fundamentals, training and competition (Training! Practice! Games!). All are needed to create a fundamentally sound basketball player. PYAA will offer each of these elements."
